Luis Iturre, director, choreographer and dance performer, grew up
in Lima, dancing both the traditional dances from his mother’s region in the
Peruvian Andes, and from his father’s Bolivian roots. In Lima Peru, he danced
for “Ballet Folclorico Nacional del Peru”. He is one of the founders of Ballet
Folklorico Peru and the most persistent to keep going with all the work that takes to lead the organization. Luis is
also the leader and the one who had the initiative to open the School of Ballet
Folklorico Peru, until these days he keeps involved in running the school and
his passion is to teach dance.
Amparo Soria, has been dancing professionally for more than twenty
years, both in her native Peru and here in the United States. In Peru she
danced for: “Grupo Alturas,” “Pallas de Corongo,” and “Ballet Folklorico
Altiplano” which was one of the most recognized Peruvian troupes in the ‘80s.
In New York she performed with “ Danzas y Estampas del Peru.”
Amparo was the co-founder of Ballet Folklorico Peru. Before arriving in
the USA in the late 1980s, Amparo organized and promoted cultural events for
the Ministry of Culture in Lima she also worked for the prestigious Teatro
Municipal de Lima, as events coordinator.
Nelida Silva, folkloric dancer and cultural event producer;
originally from Llamellin,
Peru. Nelida co-founded BFP; has performed with prominent Peruvian dance
troupes like “Peru Canta y Baila,” “Centro Univ. Huancayo,” “Pallas de
Corongo,” “Ballet Folklorico Altiplano” in Peru; and “Danzas y Estampas del
Peru” in NYC. She also has theatrical-dance solo pieces and her dance journey
is featured in the film Soy Andina; she coordinated “La Casita”, for Lincoln Center Out-of –Doors,
“Festival Andino” for Westchester Arts Council, served at the Committee Member
in Pachamama,
a project of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance; presently she is
dancing in Peru and working on a project “dance for a better
world”.
